from city planning

My pal Brendan McFadden has one of my favorite blogs. He recently recommended GIRLFRIENDS (1978) a film by Claudia Weill. It’s spectacular. If you can get your hands on a copy, do! I rarely miss New York when I see it in film or photographs but something about this picture transplanted me back to sunnier times.

Quoted from CityPLanning:
Despite being lauded by Stanley Kubrick and enjoying relative succcess upon its initial release, GIRLFRIENDS was for many years largely forgotten. A real shame as it’s terrific, a subtly moving and funny evocation of those initial post collegiate years when you’re trying not so successfully to figure out what you want and who you are while circumstances and relationships are changing and shifting all around you.
