photos from Italian Vogue’s controversial Black Issue

this is the kind of thing that doesnt happen enough

i think this image is a still from Killer of Sheep, i would ask Ale about that but he slept through it after he dragged me to see it

boneable

originally I came across this photo while trolling on flickr

Sam Uba, Riverside school, 1978.
“He was a Biafran refugee and therefore a relatively new arrival, stuck on this remote housing estate.”
“There was something about the photograph of this schoolboy from a war-torn country something shone through.”

sometimes i feel like a negro, sometimes i dont

NY has been rough
sort of like walking through a holocaust of memories.

yesterday a homeless guy accosted me+Brian outside of Tompkins Square Park
he was a funny guy-
nice hair/ cute shorts/ good watch/ Jordans
and that smell that only homeless people harbour (no matter how nice they keep).

after his literal song+dance, he’d sung some song by Ruben Blades
he told us that “the niggerwhite couples should move to France/ San Jose or San Francisco,
cause people in NY dont like that kind of thing, they talk too much.”

crazy legs in the flesh

photo martha cooper, cover of hip hop files

i was on a photo shoot this weekend for the OBEY SPRING 2009 COLLECTION, at the legendary DTLA 1269 warehouse (LA grime), which is great in that AIRBORNE STD’S kind of way.
anyways, martha cooper came up cause the designers had silk screened some of her NY street scene photos on canvas bags. well, apparently a couple of years ago she moved back to Sowebo Baltimore the town she grew up in (its mad hood). she bought a house from john ellsberry, the mosaic muralist, and plans to photo document the gentrification as it pours in and builds up around her.

point of that story: she’s rad.

everything is possible
